Poverty is an ever-present and prevalent social reality that affects many people in society. But have attitudes to it changed over the centuries? ‘Attitudes to Poverty: Continuity and Change’ is a project established by the Glasgow Caledonian University, which offers some insight into attitudes to poverty from a historical perspective.

Webwatch July 2010: Social Bookmarking

Searching Google, or any other search engine for that matter, is a bit like pushing an ‘erupt’ button on a volcano: you enter a search term, and await the information giant to spew out its results, some of which will be very useful and others not so much. However, when you do come across a useful website, a really good way to save and/or share it is by using a social bookmarking tool.

Social services, when based on the best available evidence of what works, are more likely to lead to successful outcomes for the people using them. This is what the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS) aims to champion with the development of its Evidence-informed Practice Portal and the Confidence Through Evidence Toolkit, launched in April 2010.
