Where: Central Hall Westminster, Storey's Gate, London SW1H 9NH
Event Status: confirmed
Event Description: The emergence of the H1N1 (swine flu) virus led the World Health Organization to announce a global flu pandemic in June 2009. Although Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, has stated that the disease is not yet at pandemic levels in the UK, it is generally accepted that another influenza pandemic will occur, but there is no way of predicting when that might be, nor the level of illness that may result. National Preparedness and Response 2010 will reiterate why advanced planning and readiness are essential if high-risk workplaces are to remain in action, services kept running, and business continuity maintained. Expert speakers will explore how improved planning can reduce social and economic effects, outlining current strategies and best practice to minimise disruption.

It will equip them with an understanding of the principles of qualitative data analysis and provide plenty of practical workshops to consolidate skills. Some prior knowledge of qualitative research, or attendance on other qualitative courses is advisable. In this initial course, the focus is on the process of data management (in which themes or codes are identified and applied to the data) and on generating descriptive findings.
The day is more appropriate for those whose data are in the form of in-depth interviews, focus groups or field notes, rather than open-ended responses to questionnaire items.
